Some Background on Refuge locations…
After finding our start in 2015 at the Ugly Mug Coffee Shop in Old Towne Orange, Refuge went on the hunt in the fall of 2017 for it's next location. We tried out another coffee shop, a warehouse, a wedding venue, an elementary school, and finally a community center.

We landed on the community center known as Grijalva Park Sports Center, and during that time we were positioned to reach out to the city of Orange in new ways.

In January 2020 we entered into an agreement to meet in the old Calvary Temple /Grove Church location at 308 S. Glassell Street. We spent four wonderful years at this property (even during COVID), and are so grateful for the friendship formed with the legendary Armstrong family that used to be the pastors at that church.

Church is never about a building. And, in January 2024 we began a new journey, looking for our next “home.” So far, we have had church services at the HRC (Hub Resource Center) in Orange, as well as at the Azusa Pacific University (APU) extension campus off Orangewood. But, we're known to get creative and take church on the road at any moment. Keep up with us via social media to see what we're up to and what's the latest with Refuge in Orange! What to expect

RefugeOC desires to be a safe place for anyone, from any background, with any type of church experience, to come and explore what it means to follow Jesus. Sundays are a great way to connect with others, learn about Jesus through the Scriptures and more.

The ATMOSPHERE at RefugeOC is casual, friendly, and comfortable. You'll see people in flip flops, boots, flats, loafers and more.

Do you drink COFFEE? Many of our people do, too. Thus, the coffee is on us (free of charge).

We care about your KIDS. We have a dedicated and amazing team of people who are ready to serve your kids. [Also, each of our Kids Team volunteers have been screened and background checked.] Here's how to plan for a visit to RefugeOC with your kids:

  • Babies & Infants: we have created a space for new parents in the back of the main room, complete with couches and chairs toallow you to care for your child and comfortably enjoy the service. We even have designated volunteers who are ready to be "baby holders" if you need a break or additional help.

  • Preschool thru Elementary: after sitting (or standing) with you during the music & worship at the beginning of the service, Preschool thru Elementary aged children will be dismissed to go have a Bible lesson that's on their level, along with crafts and games that will help them have fun learning about God.

  • Jr. High & High School: students are a fast growing population at Refuge, and we want to capitalize on their energy and the turst they've give us to share about God and His world. On most Sundays, our students get a chance to have a lesson of their own. We want them to have the best opportunity to learn about God. Our commitment: We promise not to talk "over them" or make them feel dumb. We believe they are on their own journey to discover God, and our hope is that their time at RefugeOC can help point them in the right direction.

We'll be studying the BIBLE each time we gather. In order to help us grow in our love for God and people, we strive for deep Scriptural study and discussion in our community. Each Sunday we teach from the Bible for about 20-30 minutes, often going through a topical study (e.g., relationships, hard questions about faith) or studying whole books of the Bible.

Because we believe that God is the ultimate Artist, music, art and creative expressions of worship are a regular part of our gatherings. We also take communion together about once a month and regularly have a time for worshipful giving to support God’s work at Refuge.
